Oh, Bella : An Update

A few weeks back I told you about our puppy, Bella (the bulldawg (spelling here is crucial. We live in Alabama), who is also known as “Bulla” by Chase), and her INSANE story involving a 10-month old puppy having lost complete use of her back two hips.

In short, her hip dysplasia meant bone-on-bone for both legs and surgery was the only option.

But, as soon as we took her in, Bella came down with an upper respiratory infection. One, that within days, turned into her needing hospitalization for a full week. She’s a fighter, thank goodness, and recovered enough to have her surgery rescheduled for this past Friday.

It was a DOOZY of procedure - she was in surgery for over 4 hours.

But on Saturday, we were able to come visit.

Y’all, she was high as a kite. But it was amazing to see her face, and I hope she realized we were there.

They could only do one hip, and she will be “a three-legged dog” (vet’s words) for a while. This will require extensive physical therapy and patience on both her part, myself and the boys. Part of why we wanted the boys to see her incision was for them to FULLY grasp that she didn’t just “go see the doctor”. She had major surgery - surgery that is going to require them to change the entire way they interact with their favorite outdoor playmate.

It’ll be rough on them, on her, and all of us, but this face? Totally worth it.

This is about 6-8 inches long.

As you can tell, her tongue is too large for her mouth. :)

She comes home late Monday (at best). Keep her in your doggy prayers/thoughts/jujus/magic dust!
