The 6-year-old Civilization

The 6-year-old Civilization:

This really weird thing has happened.

Well, two weird things as Chase is running around the house screaming “i fownd a nudder a-wee-in (alien)! it was in my roooom!”

(I’ve only stepped on it twice. I already knew this.)

That insane Category 5-year-old Hurricane son of mine? Is morphing (since it is magical) into this… … marginally civilized member of the human race. Not only that, but he is beginning to understand the importance of the “civilized” part.

And in internal dialogue, it hit me in the form of: – “fuck yeah”.

Railroad Park

I, admittedly, love downtown Birmingham, and that absolutely includes Railroad Park!

Well, awesome news for them and the city:

Yay!

Here’s a recent pic I took from Railroad Park:

If you haven’t paid a visit, please do. You find a little something new each time, and the people watching? Second to none.

They Are Nothing If Not Inspirational

The boys drive me nuts, you are shocked, and I’m forgetful… all on B-Metro this week:

I had a moderately funny idea earlier while driving (alone - go figure). One of those times when you get an idea, a good idea, and it makes you want to facepalm yourself because it’s incredibly “inconvenient”. Of course, it’s better than no ideas … ever.

Like when you brainstorm in the shower, or redesign your blog while trying to sleep - driving and thinking don’t work well together. I did the “Ellen” thing (“money in the pants, money in the pants, money in the pants”) repeating it over and over again, but the thing with having a “lightning” moment is that you are better off if you stay on track with the idea itself. You can develop an entire concept, think about it critically, rework, tweak, make steps or sentences or, in my case, entire paragraphs and they all sound brilliant. Catch is - you are doing 50 mph.

I know you’ll ALL be able to identify! And FYI - Conner still hasn’t SHUT.UP.

On Birthdays After Babies

Today on B-Metro:

A handmade card.

Lunch at a local “meat and three”.

A video game ban for all.

One large hot and sour soup, spring rolls and an order of crab rangoons.

These are the things that defined my birthday. Twenty-six years ago, I transformed my own mother into the selfless woman most mothers are. The birthdays I remember from my youth and the feelings attached to those celebrations are now the same feelings I share for my children’s birthdays. But my own? They’ve taken on new meaning.

Mom or Maid? Finding the line - on B-Metro

This week on B-Metro.com:

“The mom job”

Obviously, that’s the name of my blog, but it’s also a very common search phrase that leads random people to my site. And for that reason, and many more, I chose the name.

I guess defining this job, being a mom, depends on a cartload of variables. Do you work outside the home? Are you married? How many kids do you have? What are your “standards” for clean? Do you have oodles of money? Will you please share?
