Three-Fourths Finished Is Fine By Me

Finally finished the Swing set/Fort Of Doom. Well.. kinda finished it, but it’s complete enough that as I’m typing this I’m watching the boys put the hose on the top of the slide and propel down it at less-than-safe speeds.

Oh, boys.

I swear to everything that if you EVER come to me and said “OMG! We finished our swing set in 5 hours on a cool, April day with just me, my <other person> and some tools” I will not hesitate to ninja kick your throat.

At first, we put together the frame that is in this B-Metro post, then we realized we were missing pieces.

Oh lawdy (translation for non-southerners: “lordy”), were we missing pieces, but didn’t know WHAT pieces were missing or how many so, I did inventory.

This was the best idea I’d had since I blurted out 1 hour into the whole mess that we could probably just pay the guys that build the houses behind ours $50/each and be done with it (no one bought that idea, clearly).

We were missing tons of boards, TONS, and some (read: many) were mislabeled. It was a nightmare.

For the sake (I typed “sack” the first time - HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Ouch, my maturity is hurting) of your reading pleasure, I’ll just skip to the part where we waited 4-5 weeks for those parts to arrive. Then, last weekend, we resumed building.

And this is how far we got after about 5-6 hours of work:

From Drop Box

We started up again yesterday, but were derailed by a) lightning and b) lots of “small bits” that required lots and lots of drilling/screwing/STOP IT WITH THE “THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID” JOKES. I want to say this was an additional 7-8 hours of work.

As of now, this is where we are at:

From 2010-06-07

Gotta be honest here, kids, I have very, very little interest in making this thing any bigger. Conner is too gravitationally challenged to manage a swing (very funny story about that one), and knowing Chase, well… he’ll just do a lot of climbing which means a lot of falling. Great.

Oh, and yes… that is a BAY WINDOW. Why on actual earth did we need to construct a F**KING BAY WINDOW IS BEYOND ME. Person who designed this? Should be shot. Twice.

::looks out window again:: Geeze, he really flies down that thing when it’s wet… Is that safe? (shrug)
