Let's Talk Bloggy Business
Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 7:55PM If you have twitter, let me ask you to do something. Go to twitter.com and search for “@twenty70hosting” or, click this.
What’ll you find, whether you are doing this shortly after I post this entry or months from now, is an onslaught of questions. And for that matter, questions ranging from technical walk-throughs to how-tos to general hosting questions.
What you might also find? A conversation - one between any number of savvy bloggers and Kelly from twenty70 Hosting. Why? Because she believes that no one should ever be shuffled off to another person. If the answer is out there, she’ll try her best to find it. If she can’t (although I haven’t seen this happen), she FINDS someone to answer it.
I guess this looks like a paid post in which I am being compensated to ramble on about how amazing twenty70’s services are. Well, it’s not.
What it is, however, is a chance for me to share with all my fellow bloggers out there an amazing new concept that twenty70 is offering.
A hosting plan - FOR bloggers. She calls it i.am.blogger and I don’t know that I’ve ever seen another hosting package like this. I think it’d be easy to say that the best part is $5 a month and you’ll NEVER pay to renew your domain name again, but I can’t. Because honestly? I think the best part is Kelly.
And I’m not the only one.
When I asked a few people if they would send me a quick “love note” about twenty70, it took an hour before I had 4 in. No begging. No promises of links and pictures and tweets about them, just an honest-to-goodness, word of mouth shout-out for the service. Would it be that easy for godaddy? What about google?
(Side story: I’ve used both in the past, and just a few months ago went through the ringer with both of them. One wanted to put me off on the other, and then the latter did just the same. Neither wanted to give me answers because without answers, I’d stay with having a domain name I no longer wanted, thus meaning more cash out of my pocket. I bought 2 domains when I purchased “themomjob” because I wasn’t sure which I wanted to keep. I purchased with godaddy, but hosted with google for blogger. When it came time to cancel the one I didn’t want, godaddy said it wasn’t their job because I had hosted with google, and google said it was godaddy. I was re-routed through those two companies, through 15+ people for 3 full months before I got a 2 sentence e-mail that the domain name had finally been removed.)
See what several bloggers who use twenty70 Hosting have to say about it:

Kelly has the best customer service hands down when it comes to hosting. She made the move from Blogger to Wordpress a simple one and held my hand through every step. I know that I can email or tweet her if I need any sort of help and she responds quickly— even when I moved my blog over on a Sunday! I’d recommend her and twenty70 hosting to anyone wishing to gain more control of their blog/site!

I knew the awesomeness that was Kelly before I signed up with her thanks to Twitter. Signing with her was a no brainier because she already hosted blogs that I love. The best way to describe Kelly is the bomb-diggity-dog. The girl will rock your face off!! There hasn’t been one question she hasn’t answered or fixed or done or taken care of for me. As just a little-girl-blogger I appreciate that I don’t get put at the bottom of the stack…I’m made to feel just as important!
[and then Alena added an expletive known as “war eag**” that I won’t post here because FOR SHAME, ALENA. THIS IS A FAMILY PAGE <insert evil laugh and photo of BCS National Championship ring here>]

The thought of moving to Wordpress.org was met with anxiety as I read through the many articles talking SQL, PHP, FTP, CSS + other three letter acronyms! EEEKS. Along came Kelly. She’s incredible. Let’s just list a few reasons why y’all should host with twenty70:
1. Easy to talk to + quick to respond.
2. Willing to help with just about anything!
3. Did I mention that she sets everything up for you? Forget all those 3 letter acronyms.
4. $5 a month. + that’s no joke.
5. She doesn’t make you feel stupid - ever.
6. [Enter every nice compliment here.]

Kelly from Twenty70Hosting goes above and beyond for her clients. She helped me make the wordpress.com to .org switch, fixed a widget that wouldn’t work and protected my content from another website all in about a two week span. Definitely worth every damn penny and then some.
BA (ok. FINE. Beth Anne) (@HeirToBlair) from The Heir To Blair said (in a DM and I was too impatient to wait on the full quote, so I’ll go with this):
Abso-f**king-lutely! Can it include how I want to dry hump her leg sometimes?
I said of course! It can! And then she got busy and I wanted to get this post up so everyone could hurry up and take advantage of the offer already! Sorry, BA!

But Amanda… do you use twenty70 hosting?
I figured I’d address this now before all the finger-pointing starts. Unfortunately for me, I switched to SquareSpace an entire MONTH before “meeting” Kelly with twenty70.
When I did, I bought my new domain name through GoDaddy and hosted through SquareSpace who has an all-inclusive page designer (just as you’d use Wordpress.org and their plug-ins with twenty70 hosting). Without a “theme”, if I move away from SquareSpace I lose the entire “look”. Thing is, I’m totally willing to do so, I just need to keep searching for a theme I like. It’s overwhelming for me because I *just* did all this - the moving things around, the refiguring pictures and sizes and MAN, DOES IT MAKE ME WANT TO CHEW MY TONGUE OFF thinking about going through all that again. Yes, Kelly would be there to hold my hand, but the work I can/need to do is still there and I’m just not ready to yet.
Would I even blink if I were still with blogger? PFFFT! NO WAY! Not for a second.
As a “seasoned” blogger, I know that after you’ve put in your time with blogger or wordpress.com (or even tumblr) that you get antsy to get away from it. There’s only so much you can do within their platform. So if you are relatively new to blogging, and starting to feel the choke from needing your blog to “do more”, try twenty70 and see what your options are.
If you have any questions - Ask away! You can ask me, or OF COURSE Kelly.

I agree, Kelly is awesome!! I've only been with her a week or so, and she has held my hand the entire way, patiently answering really dumb questions quickly and sweetly! I purchased the i.blogger package, then went and bought a book on wordpress before I messed with the thing...the whole 1/4 front of the book was on downloading the program onto your computer, my eyes began to glaze over and I began to panic- I tweeted Kelly, "do I, um need to download WP to my computer??", and she answered back that everything was done for me and all I needed to do was login!!!!", just what this computer klutz needed to hear!!
proof of my computer dweeb-ness: I tried to open a gmail account last night so I would have 1 master place for everything...somehow I ended up with 5 when all was done. !!!
The only reason I made the self-hosted jump was because of Kelly!!!
Kelly is awesome! I am such a fan and so happy that this move to wordpress from blogger was not NEARLY as stressful as it could have been (by myself or with another hosting company). Now I just need to write more :)
